Coco peat that works before you even add fertiliser
Standard coco peat is a passive medium — it holds water and creates structure, but it doesn’t actively help the plant. BioBoost Coco Peat is different. The same pH-buffered, EC-flushed coco fibre base is pre-enriched by our supplier with three active inputs: a Trichoderma-based biological fungicide that colonises the root zone and suppresses fungal pathogens, a plant-derived rooting hormone that signals lateral root branching, and a starter fertiliser that provides early nutrition without the burn risk of synthetic feeds at transplant.
The result is a substrate that does more work in the critical first weeks — when roots are most vulnerable and establishment speed matters most.
What’s in the pack
- BioBoost Coco Peat — pH buffered, EC flushed, enriched with Trichoderma culture, rooting hormone, and starter fertiliser. Volume: 2.5L/5L.
- Particle form — fine fibrous coco peat texture; mixed short and long fibre.
- Condition — packed dry and compressed; expands on hydration.
The three active enrichments — what each one does
- Trichoderma biological fungicide — a naturally occurring soil fungus that colonises root surfaces and out-competes harmful pathogens including Pythium, Fusarium, and Rhizoctonia. It does not leave chemical residue and continues working as long as conditions remain favourable.
- Rooting hormone (plant-derived) — stimulates lateral root initiation and encourages dense, branching root architecture. Particularly effective in propagation and in recently repotted plants adjusting to a new substrate.
- Starter fertiliser — a balanced, low-concentration nutrient blend providing accessible NPK and micronutrients during the first weeks of growth, when the plant’s own stored energy is being redirected toward root development.
What you can use it for
- Propagation — use as a standalone propagation medium for stem cuttings and nodes; Trichoderma protection reduces damping-off risk significantly.
- Repotting aroids and tropicals — blend at 40–60% with perlite and bark for a complete, ready-to-use aroid mix without needing to add rooting powder separately.
- Seedling establishment — provides early nutrition and pathogen protection at the most vulnerable growth stage.
- Soil amendment upgrade — use in place of standard coco peat wherever biological protection and faster root establishment are priorities.
Using BioBoost Coco Peat for propagation
- Hydrate the required amount in a clean basin using room-temperature water. Allow full expansion — approximately 5–10 minutes — and break apart any clumps before use.
- Fill small propagation pots or trays loosely with hydrated BioBoost Coco Peat. Do not compact. Leave 1–2cm of headspace at the top.
- Insert cuttings or nodes directly into the medium. The rooting hormone in the substrate is already in contact with the cutting base — no additional rooting powder is needed.
- Cover or enclose to maintain high humidity (80%+) around the cutting. A clear plastic bag or propagation dome works well. Keep in bright indirect light.
- Check moisture every 3–4 days — the medium should feel consistently damp, not wet. Mist lightly if the surface has dried out.
- Transplant once roots are 2–3cm long and clearly visible. Move to a full substrate mix — BioBoost Coco Peat at 40% blended with perlite and bark works well for the transition pot.
Using BioBoost Coco Peat for repotting
- Prepare your substrate mix — recommended ratio: BioBoost Coco Peat 40%, perlite 30%, orchid bark or coco chips 20%, worm castings 10%.
- Hydrate the BioBoost Coco Peat first, then combine with dry components in a mixing tray. Mix thoroughly until evenly distributed.
- Remove the plant from its old pot and gently shake off as much of the old substrate as possible without damaging roots.
- Pot into the fresh mix — fill loosely, settle by tapping the pot sides, and do not press down. Water lightly to settle further.
- Hold off on additional fertiliser for 4 weeks — the starter fertiliser in BioBoost provides early nutrition. Begin a standard fertiliser programme at week 5.
Tips for best results
- Do not sterilise or heat-treat BioBoost Coco Peat before use — the Trichoderma culture is heat-sensitive and will be destroyed above 50°C.
- Avoid chemical fungicide drenches for at least 6–8 weeks after potting — they will suppress or eliminate the Trichoderma colony.
- Wear a dust mask when handling dry product — fine coco fibre particles are a respiratory irritant regardless of enrichment.
- Use within 6 months of purchase for maximum Trichoderma viability — the biological culture has a finite shelf life once the pack is opened.
How is BioBoost Coco Peat different from regular Agril Coco Peat?
The coco peat base is the same — pH buffered to 5.8–6.5, EC flushed, horticultural grade. The difference is that BioBoost is pre-enriched by the supplier with three active inputs: a Trichoderma biological fungicide, a plant-derived rooting hormone, and a starter fertiliser. Standard Coco Peat is a passive medium; BioBoost actively supports root development and biological soil health from the moment you pot.
Is Trichoderma safe for my plants and for me to handle?
Yes. Trichoderma is a naturally occurring beneficial soil fungus used widely in commercial horticulture and organic farming. It is non-toxic to plants, humans, pets, and wildlife at horticultural application rates. It works by colonising root surfaces and outcompeting pathogenic fungi — it does not harm plant tissue. Normal handling precautions (dust mask, hand washing after use) apply as with any fine growing medium.
Do I still need to add rooting powder or gel when taking cuttings?
No. The rooting hormone is already distributed throughout the substrate at the correct working concentration. Adding extra rooting powder or gel is not harmful but is not necessary. Simply insert your cuttings directly into the hydrated BioBoost medium and the hormone will reach the cutting base through contact with the medium.
Can I use BioBoost Coco Peat with my usual liquid fertiliser?
Wait at least 4 weeks before introducing additional fertiliser. The starter fertiliser already in the substrate is sufficient for the establishment period. Introducing high-nitrogen liquid feeds in the first 4 weeks risks overfeed stress on newly potted or propagating roots. After week 4, you can begin a standard diluted liquid fertiliser programme as normal.
Can I use chemical fungicide alongside BioBoost Coco Peat?
No — not for the first 6–8 weeks. Broad-spectrum chemical fungicides will suppress or kill the Trichoderma culture, removing the biological protection benefit. If you need to treat for a specific fungal issue, use a targeted biological control or wait until after the Trichoderma has had time to establish (typically 6–8 weeks). After that point, chemical fungicides may be used if necessary, but the Trichoderma colony will be compromised.
How long does the Trichoderma remain active after I open the pack?
The culture remains viable for approximately 6 months from the manufacture date if the pack is kept sealed, dry, and stored below 30°C. Once opened and the medium is hydrated, the Trichoderma activates and begins colonising — use within the same day for propagation applications. Hydrated medium left unused for more than 24 hours may see reduced culture viability. Check the pack for the manufacture date and use accordingly.
Is BioBoost Coco Peat suitable for terrariums or closed systems?
With caution. The Trichoderma culture may produce visible white mycelial growth in high-humidity closed environments — this is biologically harmless but can look alarming in a display terrarium. For terrariums, standard Coco Peat or sphagnum moss is a cleaner choice. BioBoost is most effective in open container growing where airflow allows normal biological activity.
Can I use BioBoost Coco Peat for vegetables or herbs?
No. This product contains rooting hormone and biological amendments formulated for ornamental plants. It has not been tested for edible crop applications. For vegetables, herbs, and edible plants, use standard Agril Coco Peat, which contains no additives.

Agril BioBoost Coco Chips — Trichoderma-Enriched 10–20mm Coconut Husk for Orchids and Aroids
BioBoost Coco Chips combine the macroporous drainage structure of 10–20mm coconut husk chunks with supplier-blended enrichments: a Trichoderma-based biological fungicide, plant-derived rooting hormone, and a balanced starter fertiliser — giving roots both the physical space to expand and the biological environment to establish faster.
Chip size 10–20mm. pH 5.5–6.8. Low EC. Sterile base. No additional fungicide treatment required for the first 6–8 weeks. Purpose-built for orchids, aroids, and epiphyte mixes where establishment speed and root health matter.
Agril Horticultural Grade Perlite (3–6mm) — Zip-lock Pouch
Most plant roots drown long before they dry out. Perlite is the simplest way to add instant drainage and essential air pockets to heavy potting soils, keeping your tropicals and succulents breathing comfortably.
These lightweight volcanic glass pearls prevent soil compaction while holding onto nutrients for slow release. It sits at a neutral pH, making it completely safe for sensitive roots. Just remember to dampen it before mixing—dry perlite dust isn't something you want to breathe in.
Burned Rice Husk — Carbonised Rice Hull Biochar, Permanent Drainage Amendment, Sterile
Burned rice husk is fully carbonised rice hull — a black, lightweight biochar material produced by controlled high-temperature combustion of paddy husks. Its porous carbon matrix improves drainage, increases aeration, and provides long-lasting physical structure in any substrate blend. Unlike organic amendments, carbonised rice hull does not decompose and contributes stable, permanent porosity to the mix.
pH approximately 7.0–8.5 (slightly alkaline). Sterile. Weed-free. Long-lasting structural amendment. Use at 10–20% by volume in mixed substrates. Pair with worm castings or fertiliser for nutrition — carbonised husk is not a nutrient source.
Worm Castings — Pure Vermicompost, Slow-Release Organic Nutrition, Odour-Neutral
Worm castings are the finished vermicompost output of earthworms processing organic matter — a dense, nutrient-rich amendment that feeds soil biology, improves structure, and provides gentle slow-release nutrition without burn risk at recommended ratios. Unlike synthetic fertilisers, castings simultaneously improve microbial activity, water retention, and nutrient availability.
NPK approximately 1–0.7–1.1 with a rich micronutrient and humic acid profile. Odour-neutral. Safe for all plants including seedlings. Use at 10–20% by volume in any substrate blend or as a top-dress amendment.
