Why it beats the alternatives
Newspaper turns to mush when wet and tears easily when moving heavy pots. This mat is fully waterproof and tear-resistant under normal potting conditions.
Trash bags do not hold their shape, meaning soil easily spills over the flat edges. The corner snaps on this mat create a structured wall to contain the mess.
Setting up and packing away
- Unfold and lay flat. Place the foldable plant repotting mat on a stable, flat surface like a kitchen counter, dining table, or the floor.
- Snap the corners. Pinch the white plastic buttons at each of the four corners together. This raises the sides to create protective edges.
- Work freely. Repot, prune, or mix your soil components directly on the mat. The raised edges will catch soil spills and minor water runoff.
- Funnel the excess. When finished, unclip one or two corners. Use the flexible mat to easily funnel leftover soil or perlite back into its storage bag.
- Wipe and fold. Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth or sponge. Fold it back along its original creases for compact storage.
Is the mat completely waterproof?
Yes, the Polyethylene (PE) material is fully waterproof. It will easily contain damp soil, misting spray, and minor spills. However, it is not designed to hold deep standing water like a bucket, as water could eventually seep through the gaps near the corner snaps if filled too high.
Can I wash it in the washing machine?
No. Machine washing will ruin the snaps and degrade the waterproof coating. Simply wipe it down with a damp cloth or rinse it quickly in the sink or shower, then let it air dry.
Can I carry my plant by lifting the mat?
We do not recommend it. While the mat is sturdy enough for containing soil, lifting a heavy ceramic pot by the corners of the mat may cause the snaps to pop open or stress the material. Always lift your pots directly.
Will the fold lines go away?
Because of the PE material, the creases from folding will generally remain visible. This does not affect the mat's functionality or its ability to create a mess-free repotting workspace.
