Description

Water smarter, not more often

Most plant problems — wilting, root rot, yellow leaves — trace back to inconsistent watering. Too much, then too little, then too much again. This pot is designed to break that cycle.

The bottom reservoir stores enough water for 7 to 10 days. A pre-installed cotton wick draws moisture upward through the soil as your plant needs it — not on your schedule, but on the plant’s. The result is consistent root-zone moisture without waterlogging.

The fully transparent body is functional, not just aesthetic. You can see exactly when the reservoir needs refilling, check soil moisture levels from the outside, and observe how your plant’s root system develops over time — without repotting, probing, or guessing.

What’s included

  • Outer transparent pot with integrated bottom reservoir and water-fill port
  • Pre-installed absorbent cotton wick — no setup required
  • Matching saucer / base plate for surface protection
  • Drainage holes above the reservoir line to prevent root rot

Choose your size

4 inch

Propagations, cuttings, small herbs and compact tropicals. Ideal for desks and shelves.

6.5 inch

Established Calathea, Monstera, Peace Lily, larger ferns — plants ready to grow into their next stage.

Honest note: Reservoir duration varies by plant, pot size, humidity, and season. The 7–10 day estimate applies to average tropical houseplants in typical indoor conditions. Thirsty plants (Peace Lily) may draw it down faster; drought-tolerant plants (ZZ, Sansevieria) will extend it significantly.
How It Works

The wick system — step by step

  1. Thread the wick. The cotton wick comes pre-installed. One end sits at the base of the inner pot; the other hangs into the reservoir below. No assembly needed — just confirm it's seated before planting.
  2. Fill with soil and plant. Add a well-draining potting mix. Place your plant and cover roots with soil, ensuring the wick runs through the soil mass. A loose, aerated mix (adding perlite is a plus) helps capillary action work effectively.
  3. Water from the top — once. On the first watering only, water from the top to saturate the soil and activate the wick. This primes the cotton for consistent upward wicking.
  4. Fill the reservoir. Pour water into the bottom reservoir port. The transparent body shows you the water level at a glance. Refill when it runs low — approximately every 7 to 10 days.
  5. Let the reservoir run dry occasionally. About once a month, allow the reservoir to empty completely before refilling. This gives roots a brief dry-out period and helps prevent salt buildup and anaerobic conditions at the root zone.
Good to know: The first few weeks are an adjustment period. Your plant is learning to draw from the reservoir rather than waiting for top watering. Soil moisture will stabilise as the wick and root system find their rhythm — typically within 2 to 3 refill cycles.
Plant Compatibility

Works well with

The bottom-watering wick system suits plants that appreciate consistent moisture with good drainage. These species typically adapt well:

  • Calathea / Marantaceae (Prayer Plants)
  • Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
  • Pothos (Epipremnum)
  • Philodendron (heartleaf and climbing varieties)
  • Homalomena
  • Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
  • Ferns (Boston, Maidenhair, Bird's Nest)
  • Alocasia & Colocasia
  • Tradescantia
  • Nerve Plant (Fittonia)
  • Herbs — Mint, Basil, Parsley

Use with caution

Succulents, cacti, and other drought-adapted plants can be used in this pot — but require extended dry periods between reservoir refills. Allow the reservoir to empty fully, then wait an additional 3 to 5 days before refilling. These plants are not the primary use case for this design and need careful monitoring at first.

Size guide

  • 4 inch: Propagations, cuttings, small herbs, compact tropicals. Ideal for desks and shelves.
  • 5 inch: Pothos, Philodendrons, African Violets, Spider Plants. The sweet spot for most established indoor plants.
  • 6.5 inch: Established Calathea, Peace Lily, larger ferns — plants ready to grow into their next stage.
When in doubt: choose a pot 1 to 2 inches wider than your plant's current root ball.
Care Tips

Getting the most from your pot

  • Use a loose, well-draining mix. Heavy, dense soil slows capillary action. Adding 20–30% perlite to a standard tropical potting mix improves wicking performance noticeably.
  • Watch the reservoir, not a schedule. Refill when it's empty or near-empty. Don't top up prematurely — allowing a natural draw-down keeps roots in better condition.
  • Flush from the top occasionally. Every 4 to 6 weeks, water from the top until it drains through, to flush any accumulated mineral deposits. This keeps the wick functioning cleanly and prevents salt build-up in the soil.
  • Check roots without disturbing the plant. The transparent body is designed for just this — observe root health, colour, and density from the outside before any problems become serious. Healthy roots are white to pale tan; brown or mushy roots indicate overwatering.
  • Replace the wick if wicking slows. Cotton wicks can degrade over 12 to 18 months with regular use. If soil stays dry despite a full reservoir, it's time to replace it. A simple cotton string from a garden or craft store works perfectly.
  • Adjust for the season. Plants drink less in winter. You may find the reservoir lasts significantly longer during cooler months — allow it to empty fully before refilling to avoid anaerobic conditions.
Common mistake to avoid: Adding water to the top soil every time the reservoir is full. Once the wick is primed, the reservoir handles hydration. Watering from the top too frequently can lead to overwatering — defeating the purpose of the system. Reserve top watering for the monthly flush only.
FAQ

How often do I need to refill the reservoir?

For most tropical houseplants in average indoor conditions, the reservoir typically lasts 7 to 10 days before needing a refill. Thirstier plants (Peace Lily, Ferns) may draw it down faster; drought-tolerant plants (ZZ, Sansevieria) will extend it significantly. Check the reservoir visually rather than following a fixed schedule.

Can I use this pot for succulents or cacti?

You can, with a modified approach. Allow the reservoir to empty fully, then wait an additional 3 to 5 days before refilling. This mimics the natural dry-wet-dry cycle succulents need. The pot is designed primarily for moisture-loving tropical plants — succulents can adapt, but require careful monitoring.

Does the wick need to be replaced?

Cotton wicks will eventually break down — typically after 12 to 18 months of regular use. Signs to watch for: slower wicking, or dry soil despite a full reservoir. A simple cotton rope from a garden or craft store can be threaded in as a replacement. Flush the reservoir and wick with clean water every 4 to 6 weeks to extend longevity.

Which size should I choose?

The 5-inch pot is the most versatile for established houseplants like Pothos, Philodendron, African Violet, and Spider Plant. The 4-inch suits propagations, cuttings, and smaller desk plants. The 6.5-inch works well for mature plants — Calathea, Peace Lily, larger ferns — ready for more root space. When in doubt, choose a size 1 to 2 inches wider than your plant's current root ball.

Is this pot safe for edible plants and herbs?

Yes. The pot is made from BPA-free plastic, which does not leach harmful compounds into soil or water under normal growing conditions. It's suitable for herbs like Mint, Basil, and Parsley. Use clean, potable water in the reservoir for edible plants.

What soil mix works best with the wicking system?

A loose, well-draining potting mix performs best. Adding 20 to 30% perlite to a standard tropical potting mix significantly improves capillary action through the wick. Dense or heavily compacted soil can slow wicking — this is the most common reason the system underperforms for new users.

Can I use liquid fertiliser with this pot?

Yes, with care. Dilute liquid fertiliser to half the recommended strength before adding to the reservoir. Full-strength fertiliser can cause mineral build-up in the wick over time. Flush the system with clean water from the top once a month to clear any accumulation.
