Gentle support for growing climbers
Providing structural support is essential for climbing tropicals to produce mature, fenestrated leaves. However, the method of attachment matters. These reusable plant ties are designed to anchor stems securely to moss poles, coco coir stakes, or trellises without causing mechanical damage to the plant tissue.
The dual-sided design features a soft, thick loop backing that rests gently against the plant stem, and a durable hook exterior that grips tightly. Because they are infinitely adjustable, you can easily loosen them as the stem thickens over time.
Why they beat the alternatives
Wire ties are stiff and can easily slice into expanding stems as the plant grows, causing permanent scarring. Our soft nylon backing flexes and prevents friction damage.
Zip ties are single-use and very difficult to remove without accidentally snipping a leaf or stem. These nylon ties can be detached and repositioned in seconds.
Securing your plants correctly
- Identify the stem. Always tie the main vine or stem to your support pole. Never tie the petioles (the stalks that attach individual leaves to the main stem), as they need to move freely to track the light.
- Wrap with the soft side in. Ensure the softer "loop" side of the tie is the face making contact with the plant's stem.
- Thread and secure. Thread the tapered end through the slotted eyelet at the head of the tie, pull to your desired tension, and press it flat against itself to lock it in place.
- Leave room to grow. Do not pull the tie flush and tight against the stem. Leave a few millimetres of breathing room so the stem can expand naturally without being choked.
- Chain them for thicker poles. If your moss pole is too thick for a single 15cm tie, simply thread the end of one tie into the eyelet of a second tie to double the length effortlessly.
Can I cut them to size for smaller stems?
While you physically can cut them with scissors, we don't recommend it. Cutting the nylon may cause the edges to fray over time. If a tie feels too long, simply wrap it around the support pole a second time before securing it.
Will they rot if they get wet?
No. The nylon material is highly water-resistant. If you mist your plants or water your moss poles, the ties will get wet but will dry out quickly without rotting or degrading.
How do I know which size pack to buy?
A set of 10 is perfect for a beginner with one or two climbing plants (like a standard Monstera). A set of 25 suits a small collection of climbing aroids. The 50-pack is the most economical choice for plant enthusiasts who regularly propagate, repot, and build their own moss poles.
Can I use these for things other than plants?
Absolutely. They are excellent for general household organization, particularly for bundling charging cables, securing extension cords, or organizing garden hoses.
