Getting the Most Accurate Readings
Where you place your monitor matters just as much as having one. The air right next to a sunny window is vastly different from the air in a shaded corner.
- Insert the battery: Slide the back panel off and insert the included AAA battery. The screen will immediately turn on.
- Place it at canopy level: For the most relevant data, place the HTC-1 right next to your plants' leaves. Do not place it directly on wet soil or right on top of a humidifier, as this will skew the readings.
- Set your clock: Hold the 'MODE' button for 2 seconds to enter the time-setting mode. Use 'ADJ' to change the numbers, and 'MODE' to confirm.
- Check your daily range: Once a day, press the 'MEMORY' button to view the maximum and minimum temperature and humidity. Press it again to return to the live reading.
How accurate is this monitor?
The HTC-1 reads relative humidity within ±5% and temperature within ±1°C. This level of accuracy is more than enough to manage indoor houseplant environments and determine if you need to turn on a humidifier or adjust your watering schedule.
Can I use this outdoors or in a greenhouse?
This unit is designed strictly for indoor use. While it can handle temperatures up to 50°C, it is not waterproof or weather-resistant. High condensation or direct water splashes will damage the internal sensor. If you use it in an indoor greenhouse cabinet, keep it away from direct misting.
Why does it say 10% humidity when my room feels humid?
If your unit is reading exactly 10% constantly, the room may actually be below the 10% threshold (which is very rare in Sri Lanka), or the sensor may be blocked. However, remember to allow 1 to 2 minutes for the sensor to stabilise if you have just moved it to a new location.
How do I clear the maximum and minimum memory?
To reset the memory and start tracking a fresh 24-hour period, press and hold the 'MEMORY' button for about 2 seconds while viewing the Max/Min screen. The memory will clear and begin recording from the current baseline.
