BSIDE L1 Digital Light Meter (Lux/Fc)

Original price was: රු6,999.00.Current price is: රු5,997.00.

Stop guessing about sunlight. The BSIDE L1 Digital Light Meter gives you an exact read on what your plants are actually receiving, so you can stop moving them blindly from window to window. It measures both Lux and Foot-candles up to 200,000 Lux, making it just as useful for checking a dim bedroom corner as it is for testing a high-output grow tent LED.

It is built for straightforward, everyday use. Pull off the sensor cap, turn it on, and hold it at leaf level, pointing toward the light source. The screen locks your reading with a quick press of the Hold button, and the included heavy-duty 9V battery means you can start testing your home’s lighting the minute you take it out of the box.

Description

Stop guessing your plant’s lighting with the BSIDE L1 Digital Light Meter.

Most plant care instructions are frustratingly vague. “Bright indirect light” means completely different things depending on whether you live in an apartment or a house with floor-to-ceiling windows. The BSIDE L1 eliminates the guesswork by giving you a concrete number.

While mobile phone apps try to do this, they rely on camera sensors built for photography, which often skew the readings based on software filters. This meter uses a dedicated, calibrated photodiode to give you an accurate read within ±4%.

Why you need a dedicated meter

  • Find the perfect spot: Map out exactly where the light drops off in your living room so you don’t place a high-light plant in a dead zone.
  • Monitor grow light degradation: LED grow lights lose intensity over time. Check them periodically to know exactly when it is time to replace your bulbs.
  • Prevent leaf burn: Test the intensity of direct afternoon sun before moving sensitive tropicals outdoors.
Honest advice: This meter measures Lux (how the human eye perceives light intensity), not PAR (the exact spectrum plants use for photosynthesis). While a true PAR meter costs tens of thousands of rupees, measuring Lux is the most practical, budget-friendly way for home growers to gauge overall light volume and map out their space.
How To Use

How to get an accurate reading

Measuring light is simple, but technique matters. Here is how to get the most reliable reading for your plants.

  1. Remove the cap: Take off the protective lid covering the white dome sensor at the top of the device.
  2. Power on: Press the red power button. Use the MODE button to select your preferred unit (Lux or Fc).
  3. Position at leaf level: Hold the meter right next to your plant's top leaves. Crucially, point the white dome directly at the light source (the window or the grow light), not straight up at the ceiling.
  4. Lock the reading: The numbers will fluctuate slightly as you move. Press the HOLD button once to freeze the number on the screen so you can pull it away and read it comfortably.
Sensor Care: Always put the protective lid back on immediately after use. The photodiode under the dome is highly sensitive. Dust, fingerprints, or micro-scratches on the dome will permanently alter your accuracy.
Light Guide

How much light does your plant actually need?

Once you have your BSIDE L1 reading, use this general baseline to figure out if your plant is in the right spot. Note: 1 Foot-candle (Fc) is roughly equal to 10 Lux.

Low Light
500 – 2,500 Lux
Enough to survive, but growth will be very slow. Soil will stay wet longer.
Best for: ZZ Plants, Snake Plants, Cast Iron Plants, Calatheas.
Medium Light
2,500 – 5,000 Lux
Good for steady growth. Usually found a few feet back from a bright window.
Best for: Pothos, Aglaonema, Hoya, Peperomia.
Bright Indirect
5,000 – 10,000 Lux
The sweet spot for most tropicals. Right next to an east-facing window, or pulled back slightly from a south-facing one.
Best for: Monsteras, Philodendrons, Alocasias, Ficus.
Direct Sun
10,000+ Lux
Harsh, direct rays hitting the leaves. Excellent for desert natives, but will scorch thin-leaved tropicals.
Best for: Cacti, Succulents, Citrus, Herbs.

FAQ

Can I just use a free light meter app on my phone?

You can, but they are rarely accurate enough for diagnostic plant care. Phone cameras and their ambient light sensors are designed to balance lighting for photography, not measure raw intensity. Depending on the angle and your specific phone model, an app can be off by thousands of Lux. A dedicated hardware sensor gives you a reliable, repeatable baseline.

Does this measure PAR or PPFD for grow lights?

No, this measures Lux and Foot-candles, which represent how the human eye perceives brightness. True PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) meters are specialized scientific instruments that are significantly more expensive. However, a Lux meter is excellent for home growers to map out light drop-off distances and check if an LED grow light is losing intensity over time.

Do I need to calibrate the meter before using it?

No. The BSIDE L1 comes factory calibrated and ready to use right out of the box. There is no manual calibration required. Just ensure the white sensor dome remains clean.

How long does the battery last?

Because the LCD screen and sensor draw very little power, a standard 9V battery will easily last over a year under normal household usage (checking plants a few times a week). The screen features a low-battery indicator so you'll know when it's time to swap it out.
